Generator Thermal Imaging Inspections

Finding the problem while it is still a loose bolt, not a fire.

Why it matters

Most electrical failures announce themselves first as heat.

A connection works loose, resistance goes up, and that spot starts running hotter than everything around it. It can carry on like that for months. Then one day it fails, and it usually fails at the worst possible moment.

You cannot see that with your eyes. A thermal camera sees it immediately.

How it works

The camera turns temperature into a picture.

We scan your generator and its associated equipment with an infrared camera while the system is running under load. A hot connection shows up as an obvious bright spot against everything around it.

We survey the alternator and terminations, the control panel and breakers, the transfer switch, the battery charger and connections, cable terminations and busbars, and the engine and cooling system.

You get an inspection report with the thermal images, the temperature readings, and a clear note of which findings need attention now and which can wait for the next scheduled visit.

Nothing has to be shut down

The scan is done while the system runs. No outage, no disruption, no downtime for your building.

It catches what a visual inspection cannot

A technician looking at a terminal block sees a terminal block. The camera sees that one of them is running forty degrees hotter than the rest.

It is cheap compared to what it prevents

Tightening a connection costs very little. Replacing a burnt-out alternator, or dealing with an electrical fire in a generator room, costs a great deal.

It builds a record

Scan the same equipment each year and you can see what is changing. A connection that is slightly warmer than last year is worth watching.

Straight answers

Does the generator need to be running?

Yes, and ideally under load. Heat only appears when current is flowing, so scanning a cold, stopped machine tells us nothing.

Do I get the images?

Yes. The report includes the thermal images alongside a normal photograph of the same area, so you can see exactly what we are pointing at.

Can you scan our switchgear too?

Ask us when you book. We will confirm what is in scope beyond the generator itself before the visit.

Can this be done as a standalone job?

Yes. You do not have to be a maintenance customer to book a thermal survey.
